Checkered Potholders

2016 was the year I declared that I would not purchase any more potholders. No matter what type I buy they never last long. I'm tired of throwing money at them. Since I love to crochet and knit washcloths and dishcloths I figured potholders were automatically in my wheelhouse. There was a really cute, vintage checkerboard pattern available on Etsy for $6 but I knew I could create them without a pattern. After 45 years of crocheting I at least hoped I could figure it out. I did. For each potholder I made 2 squares and then stitched them together for thickness.I'm in love. Even my husband likes these better than any store bought potholder/hot pad I've ever bought. It's amazing what you can make with a little bit of cotton and a crochet hook. Now I need to make round ones to go between my pots and pans.
