THE ROBINSWOOD STORY - BOOKS 1-3 BY JEAN GRAINGER
I found the Robinswood Story series by Jean Grainger while searching for WWII historical fiction on Kindle Unlimited. My top two genres when it comes to reading are historical fiction set during WWII and crime novels, especially those set in the UK. It was a wonderful find. All three books are available to read free if you have a Kindle Unlimited subscription.
From Goodreads:
Robinswood, Co Waterford, 1939.
The once grand Irish house is home to two very different families.
Despite delusions of grandeur, Lord and Lady Kenefick and their adult children, live a life of decayed opulence as the money needed to keep such a large house and grounds ever dwindles.
Meanwhile, the Murphy family, Dermot, Isabella and their three almost grown up girls, live and work on the estate and do their best to keep everything running smoothly.
Social structure is vital. Everyone knows their place, but as war looms, both families find themselves drawn into the conflict and begin questioning everything that once was true.
From the leafy grounds of an Irish stately home, to the bombed out streets of London in the Blitz, allow yourself to be swept away once more in Jean Grainger’s latest historical saga
After reading the series, Jean Grainger was immediately added to my favorite authors. Her character development is truly wonderful and I lost myself in each of their stories while remaining aware of the overall tale.
The majority of the WWII novels that I read were focused on England but after readingWhat the Wind Knows by Amy Harmon I wanted to delve more into the Irish history related to World War II. I started reading What Once was True in December and finished Trials and Tribulations earlier this month.
Book one deals with life at the onset of WWII as the families are split apart. Two of the Murphy daughters, Kate and Aisling, run off to England and serve in the English military. This doesn’t sit well with their father Dermot, who fought for Irish independence years before. Eve, remains with her parents who have been forced to find new employment in Dublin when Lady Violet is forced to sell Robinswood because of her dead husband’s gambling debt.
The next books follow the families as they strive to find normalcy after the war ends.

The series is a good read and I loved each one them. They’re not edge-of-your-seat gripping novels but the characters find a place in your heart and you want to know what happens to them. You’re invested in each of them with every turn of a page. I’m glad I found this series on Kindle Unlimited and I’ll definitely be reading more by Jean Grainger.
