Twelve Days Later...
Lawn mowed. I feel better about sitting for a bit in order to add a blog post today. Mowing the lawn is tough for me because I’m insanely out of shape and over weight. I won’t post a photo because I’m just not there yet but I am at trying to get up and be more active. We changed our eating habits several years back but we do still enjoy ordering out now and again. During lockdown in 2020 it was crazy how much we ordered food delivery.
This issue now is that each year I get older but I move less. That stops now! I tried Fitbit brand trackers but I’m not a fan. Then I saw the Amazon Halo Tracker. After reading reviews and watching videos I decided to buy it.

So far the experience is much better than with Fitbit. I love that there isn’t a screen face to constantly watch. It tracks my movement and the intensity of that movement to reward points instead of merely counting steps. I found that my Fitbit wouldn’t count steps if I was pushing the lawn mower or a shopping cart. If the sole job is to count steps you would think those would count. Perhaps Fitbit has improved in that perspective but I don’t think I’ll ever be a fan. Not after owning the Halo.
Halo rewards your movement/activity with points and the starting goal is 150 points each week. Weeks start on Monday and the data resets on Sunday at midnight. But what Halo giveth, Halo taketh away. Sit around on your keester for more than the alloted 8 hrs. each day and points will be taken away. It’s helping you to become more active and that’s what I need. Everyone has different things that motivate them in their weight loss journey. So far this has been a life changer for me. I’m happy that it acknowledges my impromptu kitchen dancing and rewards me for the activity. The point system is working for me so far and I feel good about trying to move more. The Amazon Halo is $100 and Amazon is running a special “Buy one band at full price, get a 2nd band 50% off”. I’m not sure how long that sale is going to last. Oh and this isn’t a sponsored post. I’m writing about the Halo because I truly love it.

I’m jamming a couple days into this blog post. Today I decided to try out one of the workouts provided by the Halo app. There are workouts and fitness programs available from OpenFit, Sweat, P.Volve, Orangetheory and more. I tried Bands and Bells Bodybuild: Upper Body Pull from Halo and made it through the entire workout completing each of the four circuits. It was a challenge for me and my shoulders are feeling it as I type this.

To cool down I went for a swim and worked out even more. Working out in the pool doesn’t feel like exercise. The pool is my happy place. I may grimace a lot while working out in there but once I’m done I let myself float for at least 30 minutes without a care in the world.
My sons rave about Keto and I see what others do to get in shape but nothing really stuck for me. This sticks. I want to do the workouts because I know the tracker will acknowledge them. When you buy the band you get 6 months of Halo membership free then it’s $3.99 a month. Without the membership you still get a limited selection of workouts, step and activity session tracking. I’ll be keeping the membership. It’s cheaper than going to the local gym which has a limited membership for $10 a month. That’s still affordable but I like working out at home where I feel comfortable. I judge myself harshly enough. I don’t need the gym rats judging me on top of that.
So we’re moving along!
Time to hit the sack with a good book.
Peace,
B
