New Cars. New Businesses. State of the Fam.

This family continues to move and groove even in these uncertain times. My boycott of cable network “news” from sources left, right and middle continues. I get my local news from NJ.com and I scan my Associated Press news app every other day. The “news” hasn’t been truly informative for years now. It’s all about grabbing the spotlight to garner higher ratings. Pfft, I have no time for the nonsense and hold all sides equally responsible for irresponsible reporting. Moving on!

I mentioned in a couple posts that our son and daughter-in-law started a small family business. They’re off and running with dates booking fast and we couldn’t be happier for them. IG Party Rentals provides bounce houses, water slides, foam cannons, concessions and projector equipment for rent. I’m not sure who is having more fun, my son or his customers.

Initially he wanted to start a food truck business but took an alternate route for now. The food truck is still on the idea table because he wants the business to be an all-in-one party business: bounce houses, water slides, concessions, DJ services, tables, chairs, tents etc. He and his wife have worked out some really great package ideas for the future. For now, it’s all about the inflatables!

The bookings are rolling in and they’re off to an amazing start thanks to several angel investors in the business. They’re lucky to have generous friends as well as talented friends too. The business website is being built by a friend of our oldest son who just happens to be a web developer! Drakka Dev, LLC handles every aspect of getting a professional site set up on the web. From website design to maintenance, you’re in great hands. Pricing is affordable and worth every penny.

Back when we bought our SUV, we gave our ‘07 Fusion to our youngest son because he loved it so much. He’s been driving it for 4 years and keeping it maintained with the help of our mechanic, Jeff. Jeff worked with my husband years ago at a local dealership before they went off on different paths. Hubs went into the telecommunications industry and Jeff opened his own shop. The family takes all their vehicles to him and him only. Yes, he’s that good and incredibly affordable.

With nearly 160K miles on the Fusion, Three took the car in for an oil change and to ask about a few things he noticed. Bottom line, the car needed $3500 of work and Jeff told Three it was time to purchase a new car. He hemmed an hawed until last week when he came in from work.

“Mama, do you want to go with me to Delaware and buy a new car?” The check engine light came on while he was driving home and he could barely get it started in the parking lot. I’m all about helping my boys whenever they need me but Delaware on a Friday with my anxiety is a detriment to anyone driving, other than my husband. I suggested he text one or both of his brothers. They’re always willing to help him out when he needs it. Sure enough, Two replied with, “Putting on my shoes now. Be there in 10.” One would have gone but he’s been slammed at work due to staffing shortages. He’s a network engineer for the same telecommunications company where Hubs works.

In just under 4 hours, the boys found, test road and purchased Three’s new car: A 2020 Hyundai Kona SEL. In the current state of car sales, this was a solid score. They didn’t have the two Venues he was interested in from their website. They’re “In-transit.” Everything remotely affordable is in-transit these days. Their salesperson told them if a car hits the lot for under $25K and under 10K on the odometer, it’s usually purchased within 24 - 48 hours.

His brother made sure he got a great deal, a quarter tank of gas and a car that won’t break him at the gas pump. He was bugged because he just put $70 into the Fusion’s tank the day before but I guess the boys have plans to syphon from the tank and leave enough to start it and drive it away. He’s not sure if he’s going to sell it as a Mechanic’s Special or junk it for cash. I’m sure he’ll take the easiest route. We bought it new in ‘07 and couldn’t ask for more out of it. It’s his car so it’s his decision. Right now, he’s enjoying the new car with all the bells and whistles AND an air conditioner that works.

Now I need to head outside and get the lawn cut because the weather forecast is calling for thunderstorms tomorrow.

Peace,

Nim
