Beyond the Bookstore Mystery Series by Lauren Elliott | Thoughts

Finding a new series to read always proves difficult when you finish a series that you love. That’s the case with T.E. Kinsey’s Lady Hardcastle Mysteries. I am seriously addicted to those stories and hope the author plans to pen more adventures with Lady H and Armstrong. Being a Kindle Unlimited subscriber means there are many, many books to choose from when looking for something new. That doesn’t mean they’ll be books I enjoy. Thankfully, this year is starting out really well in that department. After scrolling through multiple selections, I landed on the Beyond the Page Bookstore Mystery Series by Lauren Elliott. There are currently eight books available to read with the ninth arriving this Spring.

I’m hooked, even with the smattering of romance brewing in each book. I started the series on the 14th of February and I’m already on book , A Page Marked for Murder. These are quick reads for me because I can’t seem to put the books down once I start reading. I started book 2 last night and finished it just before sitting down to to blog. Each book is filled with well crafted characters and set in a wonderful seaside harbor town in New England. Addison Greyborne, leaves Boston and painful memories to reside in town founded by her ancestors, in a home left to her by her Great Aunt. Her love of books, research, history and her uncanny “gut instinct” make her a solid amateur sleuth. The town, the characters and the plethora of twists and turns in each story keep me hooked until the final reveal and make for many “A HAH!” moments. To say I’m enjoying the series is an understatement. It’s managed to secure a place on my list of favorites and like I wrote, I’m only on book three.

Since leaving the harder crime fiction behind for cozy mysteries I’m not only sleeping better, I’m excited to start each new story. It reminds me of going to the library each week to borrow a new Nancy Drew book. As I got older I fell in love with Agatha Christie. The Cozy Mystery genre gives me all the same feels. Of course not all of them will be my cup of tea but I’m glad I trusted my own gut instinct and started this series all because I loved the idea of a bookstore owner turned sleuth.

Seven of the currently published books in the series are available to read with a Kindle Unlimited subscription. Book 8 is not but affordable at $6.99 for the Kindle version and I’m going out on the limb with a guess that the upcoming ninth book in the series will be purchase only as well on Amazon. We’ll see.

It’s Saturday, so I’ll only be able to get a few more chapters read before we head out to play cards. I haven’t played Magic the Gathering since before I got COVID last month and I’m itching to play. It’s always fun to hang out with my nephew and his wife while we play cards and talk. It’s something I look forward to each week.
