Destiny 2: Lightfall and Me

As a gamer, it’s always great when you find a solid game that you absolutely love playing. A game you can play for hours on end. A game that even after taking a break gives you a ton of enjoyment when you return. One game is great right? Currently there are three games occupying all of my gaming time.

  1. Destiny 2: LIghtfall

This is where I get real about my take on the current expansion from Bungie for the game. The story is weak and at times all over the place. Coming off the success of the previous expansion The Witch Queen, this pales in comparison. I’m not as invested this time around in the story but I’ll be honest with you, I don’t play Destiny 2 for the story. I play it because I love looter shooters, collecting shaders, gear, sparrows and ships. I love racking up achievement points and getting to the seasonal rank of 100. It’s a game that I play when I’m particularly bored with the world of mmorpgs, my main genre.

Not a fan of the washed out generic builds with the new expansion either. Where are my seeking wells? Prior to the release of Lightfall, Bungie made all mods available to all players. We enjoyed grabbing the ones we didn’t have and needed. When LIghtfall launched many of those mods were gone. Mods are bland now compared to what we had but I grind on in hopes of putting together a build for solar, because I love playing a hammer throwing solar Titan.

Right now though, I’m happily decimating pixels with a strand build that my husband created for me and my style of play. It feels fresh, not overpowered and hella fun to play. I’m not a fan of zipping around like Spiderman so we nixed that for options that enhance my grenade throwing ways. The new interface cleans up a lot of convoluted bs when it came to searching for achievements. Instead of an insane amount of click here, open this, clcik there, open that, page, page, page… the new system is slick and efficient. Not sure about the ranking system though.

We still have seasonal ranks with rewards for progress made from 1 - 100. Seasonal ranks still have two paths: one for those without the season pass and one for those that do. Now we have an additional ranking system which goes from 1-7 with Rank 7 being “Elite”. We started at Rank 6-Veteran. New players start at Rank 1. Returning players start based on what campaigns they’ve completed thus far. The addition of load-outs for gear/weapons/mods is a much awaited perk. The community has been asking for load-outs since the start of all this. We finally got them. I can easily create a build for elements, raiding, PvP, Trials etc. The only thing I haven’t found with the loadouts is how to delete one if I abandon it. I guess it comes down to overwriting them so I’ll adjust.

The planet of Neptune is great. We’ve been in need of an urban type setting and they did this one proud. Nimbus, the hub character that dishes out bounties each day is fun and I like them as well as the npc Quinn, the archivist which is essentially a holo. Osiris makes a return and quite frankly, he’s annoying this time around. Like seriously annoying with the incessant whining or nagging at the guardian. I wanted nothing more than to skip through anything that involved him speaking. Unfortunately you can’t skip everything.

As for armor, weapons and the new element “strand”, I’m in love with all of it. A crappy story won’t stop me from playing the game especially since Borderlands turned into a giant ball of poo since Borderlands 2. Borderlands 3 was good, not as good as 2 but solid. Tiny Tina’s Tina’s Wonderland was much anticipated by both of us and we quit playing within 2 weeks of launch. For us it fell flat and we haven’t returned to finish the game on normal much less replaying it at harder levels. So Destiny 2 fills the void left behind by Borderlands.

It’s also a visually stunning game as usual. It’s number three on my list of gorgeous games right behind Guild Wars 2, which is second on my list with Hogwart’s Legacy firmly in first place. We’ve finished the Lightfall campaign on regular difficulty, now we’re replaying it on Legendary because both hubby and I want the exotic Titan reward for doing so.

Time to get back at it and get to rank 100. I’m close to getting the new exotic sparrow for the season! Here it is with two of my favorite shaders. It looks great in nearly every color too!

Back to the grind!

GG,

B
