Doily Love | Crochet

Started this blog and then wandered off. I'm still on the fence between continuing with this free Wordpress blog or paying for a blog hosted on Squarespace. My time away from here has been spent checking out what they have to offer because there's a 14 day free trial period. But on to crochet. I've been a digital subscriber to Crochet World magazine for a couple years via my iPad and it's been okay. I had embraced technology and loved having the magazine stored where I could access it away from home. But therein lies the rub. I keep my magazines and to be able to access them without the use of WiFi they have to be downloaded. When we purchased our iPads several years ago we chose the 16GB size. I find myself constantly having to remove apps, photos and issues of my magazines in order to make room. Stuff that I've purchased is floating around on the Cloud which can only be accessed via an internet connection. Here's where my age and old school ways clash with modern technology. If it's on the cloud and only accessible if I have connected to the internet I don't really own it. So I made the decision to revert to paper subscriptions for my food, crochet and knitting magazines.I received the October 2016 issue of Crochet World and immediately decided to make the Autumn Marigolds Doily pattern. I knew it would be a perfect centerpiece doily for my dining room table (once I've finished staining it) if I crocheted it in teal or turquoise. It's been years since I've made a doily or done anything in this thread weight. My mom, who recently turned 91, is the doily queen in our family. She crocheted for over 75 years and created many beautiful gifts for her loved ones. Arthritis and nerve damage due to diabetes caused her to put the hooks down forever. We stopped gifting her yarn and gave her adult coloring books and pencils to go along with the volumes of puzzle books she does each year. She would like this pattern I'm sure and would have made it in every color in her stash.Maybe it's my turn to pick up the doily making around here. The pattern called for a size 7 (1.65mm) hook and size 10 cotton thread. I'm a rebel so I went with a size F (3.75mm) hook and  some Aunt Lydia's size 3 cotton thread in teal and I love how it turned out. The pattern was easy to follow and worked up quickly. I spent three evenings on it while binge watching "Drop Dead Diva" on Netflix. Now I need to get back to work on the Christmas stockings...
