State of the Gaming

It’s been nearly a month since I’ve written a gaming post. My weeks have been filled with preparation for the family Christmas celebration. With all the baking, cooking and gift wrapping both J and I found time to play both video and tabletop games. World of Warcraft dominated the first two weeks of December but then we switched gears to play Borderlands 3.

This is second play-through of the game and we’re set to Mayhem 3 while we farm legendary weapons and scour every nook and cranny of the planets. On Friday the 19th the DLC Moxxie’s Heist on the Handsome Jackpot released which gave us another source of coin and gear. Both J and I enjoyed the first DLC for Borderlands 3 even though we read complaints that there was only 5-7 hours of content. We take our time with games because we’re explorers. We do all the side quests and are always looking for goodies buried in the game. On Mayhem 3 we finished it to our satisfaction in about 15 hours. Like I said, we scour the content and open every loot box in hopes of finding something.

We’re thorough, damn thorough. We also spend time tweaking our builds to suit not only our personal play style but to help us shred mobs and bosses. The one thing that’s lacking at the moment is screenshots. This makes me chuckle because I complained about not being able to take screenshots in previous Borderlands games. We were so consumed with playing that I forgot to stop and get images. It’s also something I have to remind myself to do because I’m just accustomed to not having that ability.

Since the family gets together later in the day we had the opportunity to log into World of Warcraft and collect our Christmas gifts. It was a bit of the same from years past. Honestly nothing very exciting. Same quests. Same gifts yadda yadda yadda.

Riding through Ironforge! Winter Veil 2019

Riding through Ironforge! Winter Veil 2019

World of Warcraft is in the lull between expansions. Shadowlands is set to release in 2020. Our guess is some time in August/September. We’ve been chasing old achievements, farming transmogs and leveling professions we’ve wanted. But that ends for us on January 14 when Patch 8.3 goes live. We’ll be playing the new race of gnome, the MECHAGNOME!!! Both J and I fell in love with Mechagon and the gnomes that inhabit the island when we returned to the game. I told J I’d love it if they made the race playable.

Boom! Wish granted.

We’ll be leveling Mechagnome Hunters and most likely playing them as our mains when the expansion drops. I’m excited for the level crunch but anticipating bugs because there will always be bugs. We don’t let it bother us much because we have an alternate source of entertainment if WoW has to take time to fix things. Which leads me to our other gaming adventures.

We had the opportunity to introduce deck building games to our Grand-Nieces. It was such a great time teaching them how to work together with their deck building to defeat the opponents in Hogwart’s Battle. Everyone had a great time. When they were much littler both J and I hoped that as they got older they’d still want to hang out with Aunt Bet and Uncle J. We got our wish. Since this session we’ve played two more bringing in our oldest Grand-Niece’s boyfriend to play.

To date the group hasn’t been able to get past year 5. They’re competitive and they’re hungry for more so we’re sure we’ll be seeing them quite a bit in 2020 for board games!
