Monday, Oh Monday

Yesterday I baked 3 dozen cupcakes to send into work with Jay. It was a planned well before all the coronavirus shutdowns and panic. Normally the cupcakes bring a lot of joy to his coworkers, but not today. People are dealing with their kids' schools closing, daycare situations and what will happen with their jobs if they become sick. The panic buying continues and I read an article about Oregon police having to tell people to stop calling 9-1-1 because they ran out of toilet paper. Not sure how factual that is, but it was both amusing and sad.Life as it was is grinding to a slow halt. My daughter-in-law texted the family last night, confirming school closings for the grandnuggets. The youngest is out of school until at least the 27th of March. We're unsure when the older grand will return to school. Parents were told it's "TBD". My oldest son is working from home until further notice from his company. Jay has to go in each day, but at least management has implemented a plan. Social distancing has been part of my life for nearly 20 years. We are happiest at home and neither of us are comfortable in large crowds. And we love our home. People spend a huge amount of money on their homes and then spend a lot of time away from them. We never understood that and are happiest when we're here. I'm looking forward to opening the pool as soon as we can. Winter, if you can even call what we had Winter,  was much warmer than normal. I'm hoping that Spring isn't soggy and we get a lot of sun with the warmer temperatures. That means warmer pool water and possibly swimming as soon as Memorial Day! Yay!As I write this entry, even more changes are being implemented. Non-essential businesses are being told to close in the state of Pennsylvania. Here in New Jersey gyms, theaters, bars, nightclubs, casinos are closing. Retail businesses will be closed by 8pm each night starting tonight, and during operating hours they must maintain a population of 50 or fewer consumers. The world is slipping back to a time when people lived simpler lives and stayed at home. Now I just pray that the death tolls won't be as high. The US should have stepped up weeks ago and start testing. The numbers they're showing for people infected are, I fear, much higher than anyone thinks.
