Backyard Visitor
The Blue Jay pair that frequents our yard as well as our neighbors have been here since we bought the house five years ago. They’re a constant source of sound and color along with a few pairs of Cardinals that show up throughout the year. This spring I heard the Cardinals but only had two sightings. That’s when I noticed the Jays hanging out on the fence close to our Magnolia tree. They have to have a nest very close by because we see them in the yard all the time. They’ve even buzzed our Havanese pup a few times when she’s wandered near the fence to try and inspect them.
I took shot these images with my Nikon P900 because of the zoom capabilities. I don’t have a lens for my Nikon D7000 that’s capable of shooting at this distance. The P900 can but there are downsides. I’m used to RAW image editing and unfortunately the P900 shoots JPG only. The P1000 came out 6 months after I bought the P900 and I was a bit peeved about that. Right now there’s no reason to drop $1K on the new model. That’s what I keep telling myself. Also the P1000 is a heavy beast that would absolutely kill my arthritic hands. I seldom shoot without the assistance of a mono or tripod.

While they may not be crisp I’m happy with them and the editing level I achieved. For the past several years I’ve been using actions from Paint the Moon and absolutely adore them. I own the Picture Perfect Mega and Reverie sets. Hope to buy the Grace set one day soon but as with anything it’s an investment. Actions aren’t cheap but they’re oh so good to own.
Now I’m off to do some reading on this incredibly chilly day in May. We have a freeze warning in effect can you believe it?! So glad the seed company isn’t shipping our seeds until next week and hoping that this will be the last chilly weekend of the season. I’m looking forward to opening the pool and spending my COVID isolation days floating around while reading my Kindle!
Peace,
Nim
