Another One Off the List!
Playing catchup once again with the blog. It’s been a busy 8 days that’s for sure but at least we can cross “new roof and gutters” off the major project list. We updated the HVAC in 2020 when I was concerned about the noise the heater was making. Also, there’s a large item missing from the roof now and we couldn’t be happier.
BEFORE
View of the roof a day before install day. big ugly chimney!
Previous owners converted the fireplace from wood burning to ventless gas back in the late ‘90s. We haven’t used the fireplace since we bought the house because our inspector felt it needed work. It wasn’t a high priority project for us over the years until the roof. Since the fireplace insert is ventless, we technically don’t need the chimney. There are times when I’ve thought it would be nice to have a fire burning but we use the space as a dining/gaming room. It was used as a sitting room by everyone before us as you can see in the photo taken by the realtor for the listing.

The fireplace is a great piece. I love that I display things along the hearth and the mantle shelf we built We’ve talked about removing it entirely, which would give us a much larger room since the fireplace with hearth is 4 ft. deep, but that’s a nightmare job. A job we won’t tackle ourselves and an expensive job. We’d rather put that money into a new driveway, which is now at the top of our big project list.
We’re thankful we were able to get it done this year and even more thankful for the incredible job done by Highpoint Roofing. Their customer service, start to finish was impeccable. We’ll definitely call them again when we’re ready to replace the windows on the backside of the house.
Big job done. Time to relax and enjoy the rest of our summer. I will tell you that we were so excited when the thunderstorms rolled through last night. We watched the new gutters work and grinned like little kids because there are no longer rivers of water pouring out of old, busted up gutters. Now I’m off to enjoy the view of the new roof and no chimney from the comfort of my pool float. It’s a hot one out there.
Peace
