Reading List August 2022
In an older post, I wrote about watching the new Amazon series, The Terminal List starring Chris Pratt. The series is based on books written by Jack Carr. Yes, there are three links in that single sentence because the official sites are much better at explaining the who, what, where and why. The Mister and I enjoyed the series so much that I decided to buy the books.

Since I watched the series on Prime Video, I opted to buy books 2 and 3. As a book-loving, library-card-carrying reader, I’m well aware that changes are made when transitioning a book to the screen. In hindsight, I should have purchased the first book as well. There are changes of course but for me they were fine and didn’t alter my love of the story. No, I’m not revealing what’s different. Watch the series. Buy the books.
Jack Carr’s writing is very detailed. VERY DETAILED. It’s something that would have turned me off to the books if the topic wasn’t so darn interesting. In these stories, the details brought me into Reece’s world, into his mindset, his heart and gave me a greater appreciation for the jobs done by special operators. Heck, by all jobs done by every service member. They are a different breed altogether.
There are reviews on Amazon that disparage the show and books claiming that only far-right “muricans” read/watch. That’s garbage. I’m a flag-waving Independent with a strong love of God, family and country. There are other reviews that tell people to avoid reading because of the violence.
Hello? I’ve read crime fiction that’s more violent and disturbing than these books. Carr isn’t out to garner ratings due to gore. Yes, there is violence. War is violent. What did these people expect from a retired SEAL sniper with 20 years of Naval Special Warfare experience? Sunshine and puppies? It’s like people who complain about television shows for kids and want the government to control the programming. Put down your phone, get up off your backside and… TURN… THE… CHANNEL!! You don’t need the government to control what’s on TV. If you do, I suggest moving to countries like Russia, China and North Korea.
I’m ranting and I promised myself I wouldn’t. Here’s the core of this post:
I love Jack Carr’s writing.
I love Chris Pratt and the entire cast of The Terminal List.
Dear Amazon: Please greenlight a second season of the show.
I’m off to eat a cupcake
Peace
