Bring on the Weekend!

Returning to Squarespace has been nice and I have managed to post regularly while finally deciding on a template to use. The galleries are streamline now with the addition of several dedicated to gaming screenshots a.k.a. virtual photography. I learned that term on Twitter where there are some extremely talented “virtual photographers”. They have an excellent eye when capturing moments but in my opinion most of the credit goes to the artists within the gaming industry. They’re dedicated to conveying emotion with their fantastic art as well as knowledge of lighting and color theory. Virtual photographers merely recognize what’s been created and capture it. At least that’s what I’ve seen so far and most of the impressive images are captured on the PS5. My screenshots are captured using in-game photo mode if available or through GeForce Experience and my nVidia GPU then pulled into Photoshop. I treat a screenshot like I treat an image from my DSLRs.

Also new to the blog is more posts about books. I’ve always been a reader but didn’t share my thoughts on the books I read. I won’t call them reviews because there are blogs dedicated to book reviews. I just jot down my thoughts on the book and whether I like it without sticking to a review form. As for me, I seldom read reviews. Goodreads broke me of that habit. There are far too many reviews on that site based merely on how a person feels about the author personally or reviews that hand out a poor rating because the author used graphic language. Some enjoy passive aggressive bashing of readers who read the books and enjoyed them.

If it’s not your cup of tea, please feel free to state that but there is absolutely no need to disparage an author or readers simply because they enjoy something you do not. Free speech and freedom to be who you are is a two way street. But I digress. It’s been a long week and it’s only Thursday.

This week has been filed with baking, gaming, watching seasons of Elementary and tending to my little sprouts.

In fact I’ve been playing Destiny 2 and Hogwart’s Legacy so much I need a break. Destiny 2 ‘s latest expansion has left me flat. and I’ll write more about that in a post dedicated to Destiny 2 LIghtfall. Now that the weekend is upon us and the weather is milder (most days) I want to get outside and work in the yard. The raised beds need to be prepped and ready for seedlings and other seeds to be planted. I’m considering heading to a local farm to buy blueberry bushes to plant. That’s still up in the air.

We’re also waiting for a call from the garage door installation company we hired in February. Since we chose a custom color for our door they told us there would be a 4-6 week order period to allow the door manufacturer to paint and seal it with the color we chose. We’re currently at 5 weeks. So any time now? Unlike a lot of folks who use their garage as additional storage space, we use our garage as intended, to house our vehicle. It’s the one thing my husband wanted when we were house shopping. He wanted a garage and a basement but he’d settle for an attached garage. I wanted a kitchen with an island. We both wanted a brick rancher. We found what we wanted minus the basement but it had an inground pool. and large backyard. Sold, sold, sold. Now, we just want the use of our garage again. Being able to carry things in from the garage no matter what the weather, is wonderful.

Being retired means getting to do what I want when I want so it’s not like I can’t continue to game every day but the creative itch is back and I need to knock out a few projects for the house. So I’ll be pushing away from one desk to sit at my craft table. Oh and I fired up my Instagram account again. I’m not sure how long that will last because instead of staying true to itself, Instagram followed in the footsteps of Snapchat and TikTok. The site is covered with mostly videos. I enjoyed it more when it was sharing of images but everything changes right? Maybe I’ll ditch Insta and check out FlickR again. Several years ago it was purchased by Smugmug and I can only hope they cleaned the place up a bit. It was overrun with porn link bots and spam.

This is why we can’t have nice things and also why I’m paying the fee to have Squarespace host my site. I may only be writing for myself but at least I can feel safe and not be limited to one thing or another. I enjoy having an all inclusive option.

Off to do something creative.

Hope you have a wonderful weekend!
