Finally Home
I grew up in a Christian home so I’ve known about Jesus all my life. Did you catch that?
I knew about Jesus all my life.
Knowing about Christ and knowing Him are two entirely different stops on the Christian journey. There are people who have been in church all their lives and yet, they still haven’t experienced a relationship with the Lord. After 61 years in this clay vessel, my Christian walk looks something like this…
None of us walk the straight and narrow. None of us, even die-hard professed Christians are perfect. We all fail, multiple times throughout our lives. The difference is Jesus. Jesus never leaves us. We’re His and even when we screw up, which we all do, He is there. We just have to stop, admit our mistake and ask for forgiveness. And yes, we have to repent a.k.a. let go of that thing, addiction, obsession, anger or the myriad of sins out there.
At this point a lot of folks talk about, “Well I’m not sinning. I go to church, sing in the choir and read my Bible.”
for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
Romans 3:23
Remember that time when you were having a conversation about a friend and dishing dirt about another friend?
Did you raid the refrigerator and eat entirely more food than you should have?
Did you tell a “little tiny lie” in order to avoid conflict?
Did you park in a handicap spot? “You were in a hurry and you were only going to be 5 minutes.
Are you holding a grudge against someone for something they did?
I can sit here and list thousands of things but it all boils down to this…
Sin is sin. Jesus doesn’t have an Excel sheet for varying levels of sin. It’s all sin.
So, yeah, I’ve gotten off track numerous times throughout my life. Now that I’m earnestly seeking God, I can see where He saved me from utter destruction in spite of my stubbornness. I am grateful that His patience is longsuffering.
So what is home? It’s relinquishing every aspect of my life to God. Some might look at me and think, “She’s in La-la-land.” when I respond with, “Not worried. God has it all under control.” Truthfully, what can any of my worrying or frantic attempts at fixing things accomplish?
Nothing. Worry doesn’t help anything or anyone. It only makes you sick.
God has never failed me. He’ll never fail me.
And when I finally gave in and “Let God”, He was there and continues to be there. He’s brought me to a wonderful church that I call home. He’s given me my family and my church family. He has shown me not only how much He loves me, but how He as interceded in my life and altered its’ course despite of me.
I’m finally home and life has never been better.
Is your life filled with chaos? Do you feel like you’re constantly struggling? Do you feel alone? Lost? Betrayed? Left behind? Reach out to Jesus. Just call His name because He is there. It’s an easy prayer. You can do it right where you are. You don’t need to be in a church. Jesus is everywhere and He’s waiting for you to call out His name. Just say this prayer, where ever you are…
Dear Lord Jesus, I know that I am a sinner, and I ask for Your forgiveness. I believe You died for my sins and rose from the dead. I turn from my sins and invite You to come into my heart and life. I want to trust and follow You as my Lord and Savior.
If you’ve just prayed, I urge you to reach out local church and get connected with fellow Christians. If you have a Bible, the best place to start is with the Book of John. It’s the 4th book in the New Testament. Surround yourself with believers because we have all been right where you are now. Take all the pain, troubles, and turmoil in your life and lay it at the cross. We don’t have to carry it. Jesus already did when He gave His life for you and me.
