August State of the Gamer
Life is keeping me busy with new projects as I commit time to church. Tabletop gaming and video games are still part of my life though. I’m working to find balance in all things while keeping my priorities in line: God, family, then everything else. In my life, there are many things that fall into the “everything else” category. Gaming is just one of them.
Our son, knowing that we miss getting together with family for Dungeons & Dragons, purchased two copies of Baldur’s Gate 3 for us. We’re blessed with wonderful sons who take care of us when things get tough. They also step in and purchase things for us that we are unable to get for ourselves while their Step-Dad is unemployed. We’re thankful that we have enough coming in through unemployment to pay our bills. That’s all God. He alone gets all the glory.
Baldur’s Gate is incredible. We love the stories and the game has beautiful graphics. Character creation is some of the best in all of the games we play. Don’t even get me started on the music. It’s AMAZING! I definitely need to capture more screenshots when we play. It’s my thing and I usually have a folder filled with screenshots. I’m so engrossed in EVERY part of this game that I forget to grab a shot. I might have to start recording videos because some of the things we’ve gotten into have left us laughing or backsides off or wiping the sweat from our brow. It’s intense but so much fun!
Are there bugs? Yes, it’s a new release. Are there things we hope to see them implement? Yes, a couple. Our biggest gripe with the game is when you engage in conversations with NPCs. If I step up with my Cleric and begin the conversation, my husband can’t interact at all. In a tabletop game, we as players would be able to choose who was better suited to “roll” for ability checks. There’s also no way to talk to other members of your party in game. There’s no chat as far as we can tell. At this point you’d have to be on Discord or in the same room like my hubs and me. We have a Discord server for the family so it’s easy for us to jump in there when we’re playing.
I’ll definitely post more on our Baldur’s Gate adventures soon. Soon, as in “after I get through a lot of church events”. August is crazy busy and God comes before gaming in my world.
Peace,
