Breathing a Sigh of Relief

Together we held our breath was we waited for the judge to read the verdict in the Derek Chauvin trial. Chauvin is just one of the police officers involved in the killing (yes, I chose the correct word) of George Floyd.
Together we sighed with relief because the jury got it right.
It's one small step forward in a battle that people of color have been fighting for hundreds of years. While we celebrate that step, both Nykonis and I are deeply saddened that in here in America, it's touted as an historical event. It shouldn't be. In the land of the free and the home of the brave, people of color shouldn't be getting shot and killed by the police. But here we are and at least Chauvin is being held accountable. There's work to do, so much work to do. At least this cop is being held accountable.

We got our first dose of the Pfizer COVID 19 vaccine today. The entire trip was painless. Okay, not painless because my upper arm feels like I bumped into something. Other than that we're both doing fine. Our appointments were at a vaccination mega-site. The process was as smooth as silk from the moment we registered through getting our vaccination. We couldn't be happier. While I'm not keen about a vaccine developed in a year, I'm more worried about possibly dying from COVID.
So far two sons, my husband and I have gotten our vaccines. My son and daughter-in-law are in the "nope not getting it...yet" camp. With over 200 million doses dispensed here in the states we're trying to convince them that it's safe. We're not the type of parents to nag our grown offspring. They're adults and make decisions based on what's comfortable for them. Hopefully, they'll change their minds. My non-vaccinated son is also parent to my only grandnuggets. The up side, if there really is one, is that they've been masked up, socially distant and very careful since everyone went into quarantine last year. Two of three sons are frontline/essential workers.
Two good things came out of our Tuesday and Wednesday. Yay for accountability and yay for the sore arm. We're one step closer to a brighter future. Now if America would stop having a mass shooting nearly every day of the week, it might feel a bit more like "land of the free and home of the brave."
