Mama’s Got a Brand New Bag

She’s also got a brand new wallet and she’s oh, so happy! For years I’ve struggled with wanting a new handbag while not wanting to hundreds of dollars for it. And honestly, the expensive bags never hit the mark when it came to a leather bag. I wanted one similar to what I carried from 1975 until the early 90s. Today it’s called a vintage hippie leather bag like the one below. The bag below is for sale on Etsy for $650!

My handbag back then had more detailed embossing of little flowers all around the edges and I carried it everywhere. Of course I could have found a replacement through Etsy or even eBay but I wanted something new.

Early last week while surfing the ole’ net I came upon an ad for Portland Leather Goods. The reviews on the site are extremely positive but I don’t trust those, so I did some sleuthing! Basically I Googled reviews for PLG and to my surprise found positive blog posts and videos.

I needed to replace a worn out wallet so I ordered the Leather Rancher Wallet. It arrived a couple days later and I was so happy with it I ordered a tote. The Women's Leather Rancher Wallet is currently $48. PLG provided me with a 25% off coupon code since it was my first order which is amazing. After shipping and tax I still paid $48. It's a simple design with slots cut for 3 items like credit/debit or medical insurance card as well as a driver's license. There's a pocket behind the card slots as well as at the bottom of the wallet. I can easily fit my iPhone XR in its' case or my checkook into either pocket.

When I went back to place my order for the tote I was deciding between the premium and what they call "Almost Perfect". The reviews from customers that chose the "Almost Perfect" products raved about their items and how they couldn't figure out why it wasn't perfect. Feeling pretty confident I ordered an "Almost Prefect Zipper Tote. To my delight it arrived Saturday morning. As far as I can tell there's not a darn thing wrong with it! I ordered a medium which is 10.5 inches across the base, 15 inches across the top, 12 inches tall and 5 inches deep.

Both items are made of wonderfully supple leather without silly fabric liners. I've grown so tired of paying good money for items that have such thing bits of leather backed with cheap fabric. This tote and wallet will last the rest of my life and most likely my daughter-in-law will use it when I've left this big blue marble.

Hmm, that took a depressing turn didn't it?

The products are so good that I might purchase Christmas gifts from them this year. The messenger bag and Dopp kits would be great for the sons and I now my daughter-in-law would love a tote. Seems silly to make her wait until I'm dead and gone don't you think?

The prices at incredible. The quality is superior and shipping is insanely fast. FYI: This post is not sponsored by Portland Leather Goods. The tote and wallet were purchased by me after I saw a blip about them somewhere on the internet. I just get excited when I find great products from great companies and feel the need to share.
