Where There’s Smoke

It was a busy afternoon around here.

Several neighbors including J saw a lot of smoke at a neighbor’s house, catty corner (kitty corner) from our own. Thankfully we live on a street with the best kind of “nosey” neighbors. Everyone looks out for everyone else. We’re also blessed to have a local LEO live next door to us. The firefighters arrived really fast! Fast as in I told J I was going to dial 9-1-1 and I heard the sirens.

We’re a small town but have a great group of volunteer fire and rescue folks. I’m also really happy we have a fire hydrant right in front of our home. It was definitely ramped up the curb appeal on the house when we bought it several years ago.

I shot a short video of the response and a few pictures but didn’t venture across the street to get better images. It’s not in me to push up into a situation just to get photos. These were taken from our front porch where we stayed because the last thing police and fire need is cell phone waving pedestrians. We’d be more of a nuisance than help.

The deck in the neighbor’s yard caught fire. How that happened is a mystery right now. The important thing is that the house didn’t burn down and no one was injured. Things could have gone horribly wrong especially with it being a windy day. We live just off the river and get crazy winds throughout the year.

We have great neighbors, a wonderful police department and amazing volunteer firefighters in our town.

While it definitely caused a bit of excitement on the street I’m glad that everything turned out as well as it did. Minor damage and no injuries is something that makes us all grateful.
