Streamlined Brekkie
I love my kitchen gadgets and small appliances and this little addition has streamlined workday breakfasts for me. Granted, there are only two people I need to cook for but this would have been amazing when my kids were school age. I picked this up after seeing a friend’s post on Facebook. She has the single unit and makes sandwiches for her four kids and husband. She gave it rave reviews and I trust her opinion highly. When I saw the double sandwich maker that Hamilton Beach added to their line-up I bought it. Double the output means less time in the kitchen for me.
After a few “trial and error” sandwiches, I figured out how to make sandwiches perfectly each time. I did try using bagels but they’re a tough fit in the wells. The manual says to use “regular” size bagels. Nothing is “regular” size these days. Items are either gigantic or they’re downsized thanks to “shrinkflation”. So bagels didn’t work very well for me. In the next several weeks I plan to up my baking game by making bagels from scratch which allows me to control the size. Bagel sandwiches are on hold for now.
In the last few photos you can see that I used steak. These sandwiches are a hit with both husband and son. When it comes to steaks for cheese steaks, I’m not a fan of the usual fair offered up by local supermarkets. Several weeks ago during one of my regular trips to Costco I noticed that they had sliced steak that would be perfect for making cheesesteaks.
I think the price per pound was $9.99. I’ll double-check that when I shop again. On shopping days I take steaks and ground meats out of the store wrapping and put them into freezer bags in 1lb increments. It was a nice find at my local Costco warehouse, one that I never noticed before. Then again I don’t buy a lot of beef these days. We’ve been eating less beef in all of the family households since our son’s heart attack.
By the by, we don’t blame beef. We’re fans of smoked brisket and steaks on the grill. It’s just a change the cardiologist suggested for Number 2. The contributing factors for his heart attack at age 31 are genetics, smoking and his love of fried fatty foods. Unfortunately, he inherited his high triglycerides from my ex-husband. My oldest got the same results when he went to see the doctor after his brother’s cardiac event. The youngest has yet to see the doctor but he’s making changes nonetheless.
I’ve got my fingers crossed that he gets his heart health from me. Yeah, I’m working at losing 100lbs, but my cholesterol and triglyceride numbers are great. I honestly thought they’d be bad but praise God for that blessing.
Oh and this post is absolutely not sponsored. If I talk about products or services here on my blog it’s because I dearly love them not because someone has paid for my opinion or review.
I’m off to get some yard work done and also do the yoga exercises my Amazon HALO band suggested based on the results of the “Movement” test I took through the band itself. That’s a post for another day because I’m still getting to know my HALO. I can say this though, I like it much better than the Fitbit I bought several years ago.
Peace!
